Landon Donovan looks set to join Everton on a 2 and a half month loan. Kirt mentioned this move last week in one his articles. Everton said that the deal should be completed within the next 48 hours. Donovan would like to stay in shape ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
This is good news for all parties involved if you ask me. Donovan needs somewhere to play during the MLS offseason. The Premier League is a good place to do it. Not to mention his very first game could be against Arsenal as they are scheduled to host Everton on January 9th, 2010. The big test will come in February when Everton play Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United, respectively. Donovan should have a lot of eyes on him to see how he competes against the top teams in the world. This is good for MLS because his price can only go up if he has a successful loan stay in England. Donovan has reiterated his desire to stay in the league and the MLS will have no problem marketing him to the fans if he does indeed stay. The U.S. Men’s National team will benefit from the experience he gains during his stay. So this appears to be good for all parties involved.
